On Tuesday, 27 January 2026, the 5th meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme took place in Tulcea.

The meeting aimed to approve the projects selected under the second call for small-scale projects, with a total financial allocation of EUR 15,605,083. The approved projects are intended to generate a cross-border impact by improving access to education, strengthening good governance, and enhancing cooperation at the border.

Furthermore, the projects selected for inclusion in the category of Operations of Strategic Importance (OSI) were approved. These projects are subject to specific communication and visibility requirements, based on strategic relevance, significant cross-border impact, and strengthened institutional cooperation. The two projects are:

  • Flamecontrol Project ROUA00386 (Suceava, RO – Chernivtsi, UA)

Ensures cross-border institutional cooperation at the level of command, coordination, and analysis, promoting common standards, efficient procedures, and safer interventions. The strategic impact lies in strengthening long-term institutional capacity and generating sustainable value in governance and coordination between Romania and Ukraine.

  • Proall Project ROUA00392

Ensures direct operational cooperation in the border area through patrolling, interventions, and drone monitoring, using equipment adapted to difficult terrain. The strategic impact lies in creating immediate operational capacity, with benefits for communities, the environment, and safety, providing transferable results and a replicable regional approach, applicable to other mountainous and border areas.

The meeting also included site visits to projects implemented under the Programme, both from the previous and the current programming periods.
